There’s something really terrible in being caught between the space of knowing who you want to be become and having the means to do so. It often means years of frustration and what feels like futile work, heartache, pain, and suffering. You sacrifice and work and cry and pray.

Leymah Gbowee knows this struggle deeply.

A citizen of Liberia and a single mother working hard to support her family, she was keenly aware of the struggles that she faced and the struggles of those around her. Liberia experienced a terrible civil war, and Gbowee trained to be a social worker to counsel victims of war. It was there she began her journey to ending the Liberian Civil War and to winning the Nobel Peace Prize.

Once, she lived almost homeless with her four children in Ghana. Then, she saved her nation and inspired the world.

She travels around the world to inspire and educate women on the powers they hold inside themselves to rebel against the identities placed on us by others and to change the world.

You can read about her journey in her book, Mighty Be Our Powers, and learn about her life and mission on her website.

Nothing can stop you from changing who you are and changing the world. Make the choice and make it happen.
